# Billcheck > Billcheck (https://billcheck.cooli.ai) is a medical bill review tool by Cooli AI. A person uploads their itemized hospital or medical bill, and optionally their insurer's Explanation of Benefits (EOB). A free scan shows how many possible problems were found, each one's title, category and dollar amount, and the total amount in question. A one-time $39 payment unlocks the full review: a plain-English explanation of each issue next to the exact bill line it comes from, ready-to-send letters, a phone script and a checklist of deadlines. Billcheck is not a law firm and does not give legal or medical advice. ## What the scan checks - Duplicate charges: the same code on the same date, billed more than once - Quantities that don't fit, such as more room days than nights in the hospital - Charges dated before admission or after discharge - Charges missing from the EOB, or denied by the insurer and billed to the patient - A bill asking for more than the EOB's patient responsibility - Possible surprise bills under the No Surprises Act: emergency care, or out-of-network clinicians at in-network facilities - Self-pay bills $400 or more above a Good Faith Estimate - Coding worth asking about: unbundling, emergency visit levels (CPT 99284, 99285), routine supplies billed separately - Financial assistance: nonprofit hospitals must have a financial assistance policy (IRS 501(r)); with household size and income, the scan says whether the person may qualify Each finding cites the bill line it comes from and is marked "likely" or "worth asking". Billcheck never promises savings. ## Free - The scan (3 per person per day) - If the upload is only a summary bill: a letter asking for the itemized bill - A short "your rights" box when the No Surprises Act clearly applies - If the file is not a medical bill or can't be read, Billcheck says so and nothing is charged ## Full review ($39, once per bill) - Dispute letter to the provider's billing office, listing each disputed line, asking for correction or explanation and a billing hold - Insurer appeal or reprocessing letter, when the EOB shows a problem - Financial assistance (charity care) request, when the provider may be a nonprofit hospital - No Surprises Act letter, when balance billing or a Good Faith Estimate overage applies - Debt validation letter, for bills sent to collections - Phone script for the billing office, and a checklist with dates ## Privacy No accounts: each case has a private link that is emailed to the person. Files, scan and letters are deleted 30 days after upload, or immediately with "Delete everything now". Processors: Cloudflare (hosting), Anthropic (AI; API data is not used for training), Resend (email), Stripe (payment).
